Visit Maui Wine the “Tedeschi Winery” and Tour Upcountry Maui

No trip to the Valley Isle is complete without a day spent in picturesque upcountry Maui. Elevated high above the rest of island, Maui’s Upcountry is known for its Mediterranean-like microclimate, winding mountain roads, lush countryside, ranches and farms, and stunning views of the rest of the island, not to mention for its wine!

The Tedeschi Winery Maui wine tasting tour takes you to the famous winery and other must-see Upcountry sites including a majestic lavender farm, a historic cowboy town, and an eclectic beachside village.

This private tour is hosted by a Maui local guide, who will pick you up in a comfortable vehicle from a designated spot on the island, and take you and your group to the sites you choose. Unlike other Maui tour companies, Maui Paradise Tours allows you to select your stops from a handpicked list of popular sites, so you get a custom, personalized experience where you can stay in each place and explore as long as you like.

About Maui Wine the "Tedeschi Winery"

Hawaii’s first vineyard, Tedeschi Winery is steeped in history. Once a retreat for Hawaii’s last reigning king, the land, known as Rose Ranch Estate, was selected by developer Pardee Erdman and Emil Tedeschi, a winemaker from mainland California, as an ideal place for a winery.

Sitting 1800 feet above sea level, this lush mountainside climate is home to over 23 acres of vineyards, and an exclusive selection of Maui-grown wines. Visitors are welcome to tour the vineyard, learn about the land, and taste unique wines bursting with native tropical flavors like pineapple, passion fruit, mango, green pear, and lime.

Additional sites on our Maui wine tasting tour

Kula’s Tedeschi Winery isn’t the only site to see on our Upcountry Uncorked tour. Check out some of the sites you can visit when you book your private tour with us:

  • Explore a historic Paniolo town Makawao is a true “Paniolo,” aka “Hawaiian cowboy” town, and is bursting with rustic charm. Known for its bustling art scene and weekend cowboy competitions, Makawao offers a friendly, modern take on a historic, small-town vibe. Peppered with eateries, eclectic retail shops, art galleries, local watering holes, a coffee shop, a museum, and a general store, Makawao has plenty to explore day or night.
  • Tour the Kula Lavender Farm At the base of the slopes of Haleakala, the world’s largest dormant volcano, is the Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm, home to 44 species of lavender, as well as an abundance of handpicked plants, flowers, Olive trees, and greenery. Created by horticulturalist Ali’i Chang, the Kula Lavender Farm is a community-based business, and experiment in sustainable agriculture, commerce, and tourism. Offering walking and guided cart tours, gourmet picnic lunches, crafting classes, and a lavender treasure hunt, the farm also features a charming shop and café featuring naturally, handcrafted health and beauty products, tea, and pastry.
  • Eat lunch at the Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill Known for its delicious food and stunning views, the Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill has become a culinary must-do for foodies, locals, and tourists alike. Boasting the freshest local ingredients, Maui-grown produce, and the ever-popular Maui Cattle Co. beef, the ranch’s open-air grill is an inviting place to sit down and enjoy a gourmet meal in a gorgeous natural setting. Those who like to shop can peruse the store afterward for Upcountry-style knickknacks, gifts, souvenirs, and culinary items to take home to friends and family.
  • Tour an organic farm and distillery Nestled on the slopes of Kula’s famous volcano is Hawaiian Sea Spirits Organic Farm and Distillery, makers of Maui-made spirit, Ocean Vodka. The daily tour takes visitors through rich fields of sugarcane, and a solar-powered warehouse and bottling center, while educating on topics like sustainable farming, ecological responsibility, and distilling spirits. As a guest, you are invited to taste the spirits in a special “sampling room” at the end of the distillery tour, so hopefully you haven’t already outdone yourself at Tedeschi Winery!
  • End the day at the North Shore beach Maui’s North Shore beach is one of most accessible spots on the island to watch the sunset, have a picnic, or simply relax. Generally, the tide of the ocean is calmer here than at other Maui beaches, making the North Shore an ideal place to wade, swim, sunbathe, or simply sit and watch the Honu, the giant Hawaiian sea turtles, as they crawl out of the ocean to lay in the sand. It’s also a perfect spot to end your Maui wine tasting tour!
